Neil Peretz is head of legal for WooCommerce and he works on EU law and open source law matters for Automattic. He has worked in a number of regulatory contexts: in the United States he helped co-found a new federal agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In the EU, Neil was part of a legal research project for the European Commission on consumer dispute resolution which eventually led to the creation of the European Small Claims Directive. And many years ago, Neil was a U.S. commercial services diplomat to China, where he worked on intellectual property rights protection and market access issues. Neil also tries to keep up-to-date with AI policy matters and was previously founder and CEO of a Silicon Valley AI company that was acquired in 2021. In addition to his U.S. law license, Neil is a licensed solicitor of Ireland, and England and Wales, and he is an EU citizen.
